We invest in dirty hands

Some photos say far more that words can express. The photo below does exactly that. I took this photo while making a site visit to a tribal organic farming cooperative in the hills of Tamil Nadu.

Wherever in the world you meet farmers there is something about their hands that tell a story of hard work, hardship, and experience. The rhythm of life is unforgiving and respect for the environment and elements essential.

In the area we visited each farmer has an average of 2 acres of land. One acre they farm for consumption, the other for income. One hundred farmers have organised themselves into a cooperative with a further two hundred farmers wishing to join. The group have established and proven their business model but now want to grow.

The next step in our process is to support the farmers in developing an economically viable and competitive business plan. This in itself with be a major step forward in their own capacity building process.
